Martian Red Soil Could Be Used For 3D-Printing By Astronauts

Scientists have confirmed the possibility of the red soil of Mars to be used for manufacturing things using the 3D printing technology.

This development is extremely positive for future manned missions to Mars as astronauts cannot carry everything they need on Mars from Earth.

Carrying things to Mars isn’t only physically difficult but also financially costly. For carrying every kg of items to a Low Earth Orbit, the cost is $54,000 for NASA.

The 3D printing test on the Martian red soil was conducted while mixing it with a tinanium alloy in different proportions.

The dry constituents were applied with heat of about 3632 degrees Fahrenheit which was then used to create 3D objects using a 3D printer.
