The first possible case of monkeypox transmission from man to dog happened in Paris where two men lived with their dog.
The two men were diagnosed with monkeypox and 12 days later, their 4-year-old Italian greyhound also started showing symptoms.
The two men let their dog sleep in bed with them. However, they have kept their pet away from other animals or humans after they started showing symptoms.
This incident has sparked debate among experts on whether pets should be isolated once their owners show symptoms of monkeypox.
Before this case, based on a monkeypox outbreak in the US, it was believed to be transmitted only from animals to humans.
To address the case in detail, WHO has been working with partner organisations like the World Organisation of Animal Health & FAO.
The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has said that they are still trying to figure out which species of animals can get monkeypox.
