If concentration creates stress without giving us a stable solution then we should find a better alternative to it. Let’s begin with looking at what concentration is? How does it help? Concentration & Its Advantages

 

Concentration means gathering your whole attention and putting it in a thing or an act you are performing. For that particular time the whole world stops for you and just you and the activity remain ‘alive’. You are not able to make out the difference between the activity and you. Both become one! This gives you an amazing insight into the activity and lets you understand it in every way possible. It tells you what are the do’s and the don’ts to get favorable results out of the activity. This lets you do the activity with utmost precision & clarity which gives you amazing results. 

 

Drawbacks of Concentration

 

Results of concentrating hard are really good. It makes you a master of the job at hand. It makes you earn a lot of money and fans. It gives you reputation and respect in the society by giving you key positions and responsible work. The only thing concentration is not able to give you is ‘peace of mind’. And peace of mind is the most important thing that you need in order to live well. Concentration takes a lot of effort. It literally makes you churn your mind and body into the activity you are performing. You just cannot concentrate for too long! After an intense activity full of concentration you would need long hours of rest. The worst part about concentration is that it needs to be created every time you want to do something. It’s not like once you have created it, it will stay forever or stay even for a long time. Also, when you are concentrated on one thing you are completely unaware of other things. Hence, you cannot do anything with full certainty or you cannot get a sure-shot success in any activity. The stressful lifestyles of today are the result of people concentrating too hard on their work. Well, they can’t be blamed either because life is all about working and moving on. But we should find a way that lets us do all these works in a way that is without stress. Then only we will be able to live our lives the way we should!

Awareness is the alternative for concentration. Awareness is nothing but an ‘unlimited concentration’ and a pure state of consciousness . It makes you concentrated on yourself and your surroundings simultaneously but without any stress. Everything around you is in your experience. You can feel everything as a part of yours and as a part of your consciousness. You can very easily shift your concentration from one thing to another. If you want to get an insight into the flower in front of you, you just need to shift your attention onto it. If you want to know about the nature of the cloud in the sky, you need to shift your attention from the flower to the cloud. Its that easy! And all this can be done at just a glimpse of the object in question! After looking at the object, you can close your eyes and know where the object is because it has entered your consciousness. Haven’t you seen blind people with a better ‘vision’ than people with eyes? It’s just because of their increased perception, consciousness and  heightened awareness. Hence, concentration is an inferior subset of awareness. If concentration is a gold coin, Awareness is a limitless treasure! 

 

How Awareness Benefits

 

Just imagine if you were able to develop this kind of ‘sensitivity’ in you. You won’t need to toil hard to clear your exams. At one look of a paragraph and the chapter you would know what lies there. You won’t need to work too hard in your office. Every work would explain itself and do itself for you. You just need to be the work’s ‘agent’! The thing you used to do using concentration, you would be able to do it better with awareness and that too without any effort or stress. All this becomes possible because the biggest problem in our lives is that we don’t know precisely how to do things. And this is the result of we not knowing our nature and the nature of things around us. When you know about everything around you, you can very easily know what to do with them! This makes things and doing any activity a lot easier. Awareness makes us ‘a knower’ and turns anyone into a leader in everything he does! When you know everything around, you just cannot stop yourself from responding!

 

How to Become Aware

 

The next and the main question is how to build awareness? This is not very difficult either. Awareness is achieved through meditation. Meditation today is a difficult act to understand but I will give you the simplest possible way to meditate. First of all, forget that you have to ‘do’ meditation. Rather, you have to let it happen. You have to do everything you do without reacting to things around you. Just observing everything happening around you without being affected by them. You have to dissolve yourself into the environment you are in. Forget yourself in your mind! You have to become like a flowing river without getting stopped or trying to stop anything. Just observe your body & mind and everything your vision falls on and your mind perceives. Doing this will let you observe more and talk less. It will develop your perception and the ability to understand things inside-out. A stage will be reached when you will be able to know anything inside-out just by looking at them. You will become more receptive and sensitive to everything and hence aware of the environment you are in. You would not need to concentrate hard on things to know them. This will make your life simpler and stress-free no matter what you choose to do. You will be able to do things with great clarity and precision, bringing you success in a certain manner. 

 

Replace Concentration with Awareness

 

Today, we need to not only do things that benefit us and the society & nation we live in but do it in a way that brings smiles to everyone’s faces. Replacing concentration with awareness would do exactly that!
