Forgetfulness is A Blessing in Disguise |
The first thing we need to understand is that forgetfulness is neither a disease nor something bad. It is a very natural & common occurrence. And it is actually a very good thing for us. It helps us in keeping our mind peaceful, meditative & tranquil. It filters unwanted and unnecessary thoughts that may trouble us, for example, thoughts related to our past. Imagine if we could not forget our past at all and all of it continuously kept passing through our mind. Will we ever be able to stay calm enough to focus on the work at hand in the present? No. It doesn’t matter whether the memory of the past is good or bad, it is best for us to forget it. Forgetting the past brings and keeps us totally in the present and lets us create it according to our own wishes. So, forgetfulness is a blessing in disguise and we should be thankful for it.

Never Pressurize Your Mind |
But yes, we cannot afford not to remember things that we need in the present moment. It’s very important that we extract every valuable and needed info from our mind when we need them the most. Being able to remember the answers after getting out of the examination hall is of no use! But this doesn’t mean that we start trying too hard to get the answers out of our mind. Doing this will only take the answers more and more away from us. We need to understand that the human mind is like the touch-me-not flower that shuts itself if we try to touch it too aggressively. What we need to do is to just be there in silence, not try to do anything but observe the mind and its thoughts. When we consciously wait with a prayer in our heart to recall something, only then our mind opens up and gives us that information. Even if we don’t know the answer to the question, it will give some meaningful insight into the topic which we can then use to make a meaningful answer. The power of prayers & gratitude never fails us.
You see, our mind is just like our life which opens up only when we are fearless, still & full of prayers. So, to have a fully functional mind with a fully active intelligence at all times, remaining unperturbed and meditative is of immense importance. The biggest mistake that we do while using our mind is to try & use it like any other physical good, which ultimately gives us nothing but stress, anxiety and trauma in return. But our memory works best when we are peaceful and not when we are anxious. So, practice keeping your mind meditative and peaceful in stressful situations and you will be able to make your memory work far better than what it does currently!
Balance Memory With Instincts

Balance Memory With Instincts |
Another big mistake that we do is to think of our memory as something supreme. We think that memory is the only thing we have when it comes to intelligence. This puts added pressure on our mind to function properly, fast & correctly. And you know very well that pressure is good neither for us nor for our mind, memory or intelligence. We need to reduce the use of our memory to the minimum and then see what we can do. This is because memory won’t always be able to serve us perfectly & well. Sometimes we won’t know anything about something and yet we would be expected and needed to perform really well. In such conditions, we need to rely more on our instincts and what we see than what we hold in our brain’s memory. Our memory will of course join in and support us but we don’t have to try too hard and use our memory alone to solve any situation.
Hence, a healthy balance between our mind and instincts needs to be found while doing things. If we try to overuse any one of these faculties, it will put undue pressure on it and would also lead to underutilization and rusting of the other one. It will also affect the quality of results we get in our work. So, to get the desired results and have a well-balanced intelligence, we need to utilize all possible intelligence sources that Nature has blessed us with.
Conclusion
When we forget things, we should not worry. Instead, we should become calmer. Doing this will not only help us retain what we were looking for but will also activate the other sources of intelligence that we have within ourself. And this will not only let us complete the job at hand in the best possible manner but will also make us a truly balanced and intelligent person!
